2024-2025 PATRIOT NEWS

JMMS Academic Team:  Our JMMS Academic Team competed on Saturday, January 18th at South Hopkins Middle School in the District Governor’s Cup Competition and they placed 1st overall.  See below for more information.

  • First Place in FPS (Kayla Cook, Heidi Harris, Jude Tarkington and Kipton Wood)

  • First Place in Quick Recall (Harry Tebrock, Jase Cardwell, Ally Kong, Isabella Carver, Ellen Eveland, Lyla Hancock, James Phelps, Carson Fowler, Carson Findley, and Levi Clapp)

  • 2nd in Math (Ally Kong)

  • 1st in Science (James Phelps), 3rd (Levi Clapp)

  • 4th in Social Studies (Eileena Downs), 5th (Emaleigh Wynn)

  • 1st in Language Arts (Eileena Downs), 4th (Kayla Cook)

  • 1st in Arts/Humanities (Makynlee Fleming), 4th (Isabella Carver)

  • 1st in Composition (Eileena Downs), 2nd (Olive Orange), 4th (Ally Kong)

  James Madison Dance Team:  JMMS Dance Team won 1st Place Pom, 1st Place Hip Hop & Best of the Best Awards last weekend at KDCO Regionals!

JMMS Archery:  Our archery team competed in Logan Co on Saturday and placed 3rd.  Tanner Pyror was the top middle school shooter with a score of 283.  They will compete at the Archery Complex this weekend in the Hanson Tournament.  Best Wishes to Coach McGuyer and the team.  



JMMS Volleyball:  The first ever JMMS Volleyball Team starts their season on Tuesday at 5:30 versus Webster Co.  Come out and support our volleyball team.  Students can get in free but they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.  Tickets can be purchased here:

Honor Roll Breakfast:  Information was sent home last week through Parent Square for the Honor Roll Breakfast that will be held on February 7th.  Students who have earned All A/s or All A/B’s for the first semester and their parents are encouraged to come and have a doughnut.  Students will be given a certificate and there will be an opportunity for a photo.  Parents will be able to come anytime between 7:45 and 9:30.  A list of all of our honor students can be found at the end of the newsletter.  










Sucker Sales:  Students will be able to purchase suckers to send to a friend on Valentine’s Day.  The cost of the suckers will be $1.00 and they will be delivered on Valentine’s Day during their last period.  Students may purchase suckers before school in the foyer.  Suckers will have a “valentine” attached.  See a few of the examples below.  The funds raised will be used to help fund our Houses.  Pre-sales will start on Tuesday, February 4th.  




2024-2025 JMMS Yearbooks:

You can now pre-purchase the 24-25 JMMS Yearbook by clicking the following link.  The cost is $35.00 and you have until February 28th.  If you are unable to purchase online; students can bring in cash/check to Mrs. Johnson (7th Grade hallway) before school.  





ESS:

ESS was back in session on Jan 13.   This semester, students will receive 1/4 of a point per session.  A student would have to attend 4 sessions in order to receive 1 full point.  Many students were able to receive several extra average points last semester.

Amazing Shake-Students who are participating in the competition next week, please practice this week before our next meeting on February 3rd from 2:50-3:30.  

6th Grade Information- We will have our reward during lunch next Friday.  Students will be able to have tech time and a sweet treat from the 6th grade team.  Anyone who has not fouled out, received ice, or suspended will get to participate.

7th Grade Information:  Students that did not foul out, spend time in ICE, or were suspended for the month of January (Jan. 2 - Jan. 31) will be eligible to participate in the January reward on Jan. 31.  This month’s reward is tech time.  As an extra treat, we will be  getting Blizzards from Dairy Queen for those who want them and have earned the reward.  Blizzards will cost $4.00.  Money is due NO LATER than 7:40 a.m on Wednesday, January 29. Cash can be sent to school or you can pay online.  In order to pay online, follow the instructions on this newsletter to sign up for “School Cash”.  No monies will be accepted in the front office.


Reading - Last day to test for AR will be Friday, January 31st.  The goal for January is 10 points and 3 of those points may come from articles. Students should do their best to test prior to the 31st as that is our reward day and we will have an alternate schedule.

On Friday, Jan. 31, the JMMS 8th graders will be given a special opportunity to participate in a nationwide project known as Groundhog Shadow Day.  It is an educational activity designed to give students an up-close look at the world of work and possibly a chance to see what it is like to work in their interested fields of employment. Attached, you will find information guidelines that students must follow to participate, what is required of them at the job shadowing experience, and what to do if it snows.  You will find that information in the following links, but it will also be sent home with your child (on paper).  Shadow Day Letter

You must fill out the permission slip (online or on paper) for your child to participate or you can return the paper copy that was sent home with them.  The permission slip is due Jan. 30.

JMMS Band Fundraiser:  The James Madison Middle School Bands are selling Poppin Popcorn to raise money for the band program. Please consider helping our students. Funds raised will go toward extra instruction, travel, and instrument upkeep and repair. Thank you!  See the fliers at the end of the newsletter.  

MNHHS:  All parents, grandparents, and guardians are invited to attend the MNHHS Community Tour next Friday January 31st.  This stop will be held at MNHHS beginning at 5:30 in the cafeteria.  Local experts will share their experiences dealing with teenagers.  Topics such as social media, internet safety, substance abuse, and mental health will be discussed.  Attendees will be granted free admission to the MNHHS vs. Henderson County basketball game that night and there will be a good dinner served at the event.  We look forward to a great evening.
