We have noticed an increase in the amount of students bringing fidgets and squishy toys (like Nee Dohs) to class. It has become a distraction during class time and has also caused damage to some books when the squishy toys have been busted open. From this point forward, we ask that no fidgets, squishy toys, or anything similar be brought to school. If your student requires one for any reason, exceptions will always be made with a medical provider's note. We appreciate your understanding and help with this! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
ELA:
Hello, families! March’s extra credit assignment is now available, and I want to encourage students to turn it in as soon as possible, especially with mid-term grades coming up soon. The final due date is 03/31/26.
What to turn in:
Students will bring in a recipe they personally connect with. This must be a physical, tangible copy of the recipe — no electronic submissions accepted this month.
Do not send original recipes (please send a copy only)
The recipe may be handwritten, typed, or printed
It must be detailed and include:
Title
Ingredients
Amounts
Clear instructions/steps (and any other helpful details)
Written explanation requirement:
Along with the recipe, students must include at least one full paragraph (minimum 5–7 sentences) with correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and clear sentence/list structure. Most well-written explanations will naturally end up being more than one paragraph, so please encourage your student to write a well-rounded, detailed explanation.
I would also love to see students use figurative language and sensory details (sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch) to really paint a picture with their words.
In the explanation, students should include:
Why they connect with the recipe
What does it mean to you?
Is it a comfort food, a holiday tradition, or something someone special makes/made for you?
Was it the first thing you learned to make independently?
How they obtained the recipe
Who did you ask?
What did you say?
How did you get it?
How they would describe the dish to someone who has never tried it
What would you say to help them “picture” it?
Thank you for supporting your student — I’m excited to see the meaningful recipes they choose!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!
