August Students of the Month:  Congratulations to the following students for being chosen as our August Students of the Month:  (check out the pictures of the week to see why each were selected)

Back to School Bash!!  The JMMS House system will be holding a Back to School Dance next Friday, September 12th from 3 - 5.  Popcorn and a drink will be provided for each student.  The cost is $7 and tickets will be available on School Cash online only until NOON on September 12th.  Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Patrick Rudd Foundation/Flag Sales/Heroes Walk:  Congratulations to our 6th Graders who raised the most funds with a total of $490.00, our 7th Grade was second $101.00 and our 8th Grade raised $87.00.  Our Grand Total amount was $678.00.  A big thanks to everyone who came for our annual Heroes Walk.  Check out the pictures of the week for some more pictures of the event.  

JMMS School Spirit Store:  Below is a link to our school spirit store through BSN.  You can purchase many JMMS branded items through the link: SPIRIT SHOP 2025.  The shop closes on September 11th.

JMMS Boys/Girls  Basketball Tryouts:  Students interested in playing basketball at JMMS this school year MUST bring a copy of their active sports physical and wear appropriate attire (athletic shoes) to tryouts.  Students who do not bring a copy of their sports physical will not be able to participate.  If your child already has a sports physical on file with the school, reach out to the front office and one can be printed for you.  If your student can't attend tryouts due to playing a fall sport, please reach out to Mr. Watts, the Athletic Director at JMMS.

Girls' Basketball tryouts:

• September 9: 4:30-6 PM in the JMMS gym

📣 Upcoming Events

• Field Trip – Monday, September 16th:  

  • Destination: Glema Mahr Center for the Arts 

  • Production:  Sleepy Hollow. 

  • Permission slips:   already available in Parent Square.

• Reading:  Be on the lookout for information about students obtaining a public library card through Mrs. Hunt. Packets will be sent home.  Students who return get 1 FREE AR point to use any month they choose! Having a library card will be helpful as students work to earn AR points in class.

• 🎃 Volunteers Needed – Trunk or Treat

  • We would love to provide our 6th graders with a Trunk or Treat on Halloween!

  • Ways you can help:

    • Lead or organize

    • Volunteer at the event (decorated car, passing out candy, etc….) 

    • Send in candy/treats

• 📝 Attendance & Absences

  • When students are absent, it is their responsibility to talk to their teachers about makeup work once they return.

  • For a 1-day absence, we do not send work home, we work with the student then they return. 

  • If a student will be absent 3+ days, please reach out to their teacher(s).

• Great start to the year in Social Studies!  Just to help parents out, we will have 1 quiz a week until Fall Break.  We will have 4 regional placement quizzes, 

  • Northeast- 9/9

  • Southern- 9/17 

  • Midwest- 9/23

  • Western- 9/30 

• Your student has a map for each of these regions in their Social Studies journal.    

JMMS 7th Grade Information:  We have several exciting things coming up in 7th grade! Please be on the lookout for information coming home over the next few weeks.

• Science - Make sure your student has returned the signed lab safety contract to Ms. Johnson!

• Reading - Please check-in with your student regarding AR points.  10 points will be due on September 29th.

JMMS 8th Grade Information:  On September 12, eighth grade students will have the special opportunity to visit the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall at the city park. In preparation for the trip, students will learn background information about the Vietnam War and the significance of the Wall so they can better understand and appreciate the experience. This field trip is provided free of charge for all 5th, 8th, and 11th grade students in Hopkins County, giving them a meaningful chance to connect with history, honor veterans, and reflect on the sacrifices made during the Vietnam War.   Please make sure that you have completed the permission slip in Parent Square that was sent out this week.

Title One Parent Advisory Council:  If you are interested in possibly serving on our Parent Advisory Council for Title ONE, please send a message to Mr. Young.  (len.young@hopkins.kyschools.us)  We will meet a few times throughout the year to plan parent nights and discuss how Title One Funds are used and can be a help to students in our school.

If your child needs services from the James Madison YSC, please complete the following form as soon as possible. Some programs will be closing soon. Happy Feet will be coming soon as well as School Smiles- if those are needed for your student(s) please sign up today, so the process can be completed in time.
